Every CCTV dealer has lived through some version of this scene. A customer walks in carrying a dead DVR in a plastic bag. It's eleven months old. He bought it from you, and he wants it fixed. You call your supplier. The phone rings and rings. Eventually someone tells you to WhatsApp the invoice, and the message sits on two grey ticks for a week.
That's the moment the “warranty” promised at signing time shows you what it really was: a word on a brochure.
The truth this industry doesn't say loudly enough is that in the CCTV business, the warranty is the product. Cameras from different factories look nearly identical on a shelf. What separates a brand you can build a business on from a brand that ruins you is what happens after the sale.
We've been manufacturing security products in Delhi since 1991, and dealers switch to us for one reason more than any other: support. Here is the checklist we'd use ourselves if we were a dealer evaluating a manufacturer in 2026. Ask these questions before you sign — the hesitations will tell you more than the brochure ever will.
Why This Conversation Matters More in 2026
Since April 2026 the big Chinese brands are effectively out of the Indian market, and every dealer who built inventory on them is discovering what an orphaned warranty means: no RMA, no spares, nobody to call. Thousands of dealers are re-choosing their manufacturing partner right now, so manufacturers are courting you with attractive schemes and confident promises.
Good. Let them court you. Just remember that every brand sounds supportive in the honeymoon phase. Your job is to test the machinery behind the promise, because you're choosing who picks up the phone in month eleven, for every system you'll install over the next five years.
The Questions That Separate Real Support From Brochure Support
1. "What exactly does the warranty cover, and for how long?"Get the basics in writing. Duration matters — we back our products with 1-year - 5-year’s warranty, and that difference compounds across every sale you make. Ask what's covered: the full unit or selective parts? Are power supplies and PoE switches included? Then ask what voids it — voltage surge, rain ingress, an opened casing. A manufacturer with fair, clearly written void conditions is protecting both of you.
2. "Walk me through your actual RMA process, step by step."Not the philosophy — the process. Where does a faulty unit go? Is prior approval needed? Who pays freight? What's the standard turnaround time? A manufacturer with a real service operation answers instantly, because their dealers ask it every day. One without starts improvising, and you can hear it.
3. "What’s your DOA policy?"Dead-on-arrival units happen to every brand; electronics is electronics. A fair DOA policy replaces the unit quickly, without an interrogation, because a DOA isn't a warranty claim — it's a fulfilment failure. If a manufacturer treats a week-old dead camera the same as a two-year-old repair, you already know how month eleven is going to go.
4. "Where is your repair infrastructure, physically?"This is the question that exposed the entire import model. A warranty backed by a factory overseas is really a shipping problem with a warranty label on it. A warranty backed by a real facility in India — like our manufacturing plant in Okhla, New Delhi, where the same lines that build the boards can diagnose and repair them — behaves entirely differently. Repairs come back faster, root causes actually get found, and recurring faults get engineered out of future batches.
5. "Who do my technicians talk to when they’re stuck on-site?"Warranty is for dead products. Support is for live installations going sideways at 6 PM on a Saturday. Ask whether there's a real support line — ours is toll-free, 1800-121-4322, connecting to technical support engineers in India. Better still, test it before you sign. Call the number as a stranger with a technical question; five minutes will teach you more than five sales meetings.
6. "How long will you support this model — spares and firmware?"CCTV systems live for five to seven years. Many product models don't. Ask what happens when a model is discontinued, and whether recorders keep receiving firmware updates — no longer a nice-to-have, it's part of keeping installations secure. A manufacturer running continuously since 1991 has answered this question across three decades of product generations. A brand that appeared two years ago has no track record to check.
7. "What does warranty support cost ME, per claim?"Every claim costs you something even when honoured: your time, sometimes your freight, your credibility while the customer waits. This is why the slightly cheaper brand with clunky support usually turns out to be the more expensive brand. Real cost per product = purchase price + (failure rate × cost per claim × your hours). Quality manufacturing — in-house SMT production, proper testing,
certified processes — shows up in that equation as fewer plastic bags walking through your door.
Red Flags: Walk Away When You See These
Flip It Around: Warranty Is Also Your Best Sales Weapon
Most dealers treat warranty as a cost-of-doing-business conversation. The smart ones treat it as a selling conversation. When you can say "this carries a 2-year manufacturer warranty, a toll-free support line, and the factory that built it is in Delhi, not on another continent," you’re selling certainty. Put it in your pitch, your quotation, and your shop wall — it costs nothing and closes deals your price never could.
The Bottom Line
In 2026, choosing a CCTV manufacturer is really choosing an after-sales operation that happens to have products attached. Ask the seven questions. Test the support line. Talk to existing dealers. Get everything in writing.
We're happy to sit on the other side of that interrogation. Ask us about our RMA process, our turnaround, our DOA policy, and how the Okhla factory handles repairs. We've been answering dealers honestly since 1991.
